Save the dates! The annual meeting of the Northwest Oral History Association will be held in November 2010, as NOHA joins the Washington State Historical Society (WSHS) and the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (NWMAC) to present a women's history-themed Pacific Northwest History Conference November 3-5, 2010, in Spokane, Washington.

 

The conference, part of the commemoration of the centennial of women's right to vote in Washington in 2010, will highlight all aspects of women's history in the region. NOHA Workshops

The Northwest Oral History Association with the Center for Columbia River History will present “People, Place, and Voice: Oral History Basics” in Portland, Oregon during the American Society for Environmental History and National Council for Public History Joint Conference

This workshop will focus on the collection and use of oral history by public historians, environmental historians, and the broader heritage and history community. Emphasis will be on the role of oral history in documenting and interpreting the past and the practical skills and knowledge needed to conduct and preserve recorded interviews. Attendees will share project experience and ideas, explore oral history strategy, conduct practice interviews, and participate in group discussion. The workshop will examine oral history preparation, choosing and using equipment, interview techniques, and the role of archives in oral history production and use.

Attendees will receive a copy of the “Idaho Field Notebook for Oral History” and a free one-year membership in the Northwest Oral History Association. This will be an ideal learning experience for the novice and a great review and networking opportunity for public and environmental historians.
